Film Festival World Premiere
Standing on that red carpet, surrounded by incredible filmmakers and artists, felt surreal. The film received a standing ovation that lasted five minutes. Working with this cast and crew has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. The story we tell is one of resilience and hope—themes that feel more relevant than ever. I remember reading the script for the first time on a flight back from Tokyo. By page thirty, I was crying. By the end, I knew I had to be part of this project, whatever it took. I called my agent before the plane even landed. The audition process was intense. Four callbacks over three months. Chemistry reads with different scene partners. A screen test that required me to learn an entirely new accent in two weeks. There were moments I was certain they would go with someone else. But something about this character felt like it was written for me. Filming took place over four months in three countries. We shot the childhood sequences in a small village in Portugal, the coming-of-age scenes in rainy London, and the climax in the deserts of Morocco. Each location brought its own challenges and magic. My co-star became one of my closest friends. We would run lines together at 5am before call time, push each other in every scene, celebrate the small victories over late-night meals in our trailers. The chemistry you see on screen is real—built from months of trust and collaboration. There is one scene in particular that nearly broke me. It required accessing a level of vulnerability I had never shown on camera before. We did seventeen takes. After the last one, the entire crew was silent for a full minute before anyone spoke. The director just looked at me and nodded. I knew we had captured something special. The post-production process was fascinating to observe. Watching the score being recorded by a full orchestra, seeing how color grading completely transformed the mood of certain scenes, understanding how sound design can make you feel something in your bones. Festival season has been a whirlwind. Standing ovations in Cannes. Tearful Q&As in Toronto. Critics calling it a career-defining performance. I try not to read reviews, but some of the words have found their way to me. Whether this film wins awards or not, I know it will touch people. And that is all any artist can hope for. Thank you for believing in this story. Thank you for believing in me.
